Dtravel Launches Growth Incentive Program Funded by 150 Million TRVL
We're excited to announce Dtravel Rewards, an ecosystem growth initiative, funded by 150 million TRVL, aimed at increasing listings, on-chain bookings and community engagement.
Over the last two years, vacation rental operators have received TRVL, Dtravel’s native ecosystem token, as a reward for processing peer-to-peer bookings. This incentive model not only encouraged vacation rental operators to reduce their reliance on centralized marketplaces, but it empowered early adopters with the ability to participate in the future success of the network.
A lot has changed since one of Dtravel's earliest supporters from the UK processed a vacation rental booking using the ecosystem's smart contract payment infrastructure. With the launch of the world's first peer-to-peer metasearch, coupled with a push to decentralize the network by building on the Nite Protocol, it's time for Dtravel enter its next phase of growth supported by a new rewards model.
Grow the Ecosystem. Earn Rewards.
For newcomers, it's easy to think of Dtravel as a decentralized Airbnb. Rather than replicating the misaligned incentives often associated with centralized marketplaces like Airbnb, however, Dtravel has instead opted for a system where value can be shared across all participants.
Built on top of an open-sourced data standard called the Nite Protocol, vacation rental operators use Dtravel’s infrastructure to add listings to the network by either creating their own booking site or connecting an existing one. This removes Dtravel as an intermediary, giving the control back to business owners who take on the all responsibility of providing accommodation services to guests. Travelers, on the other hand, use a Nite Protocol listing aggregator called Dtravel Search to query the network and discover vacation rentals they can book peer-to-peer. By connecting travelers directly with vacation rental operators, the Dtravel ecosystem empowers participants with operational sovereignty, providing a real-world application for cryptocurrency and significantly reducing the commission fees associated with booking travel.
As outlined in our TRVL Tokenomics paper, the first phase of TRVL adoption and expansion was to focus on Dtravel ecosystem enablement. As a reminder, this stage is focused on three key areas - (1) creating TRVL utility within Dtravel’s ecosystem, (2) accelerating listings growth, on-chain booking transactions, and rewards and (3) deliberate and responsible decentralization.
This post focuses on one specific driver: TRVL rewards for ecosystem growth. The most valuable drivers of growth are (1) Listings, (2) Bookings, and (3) Community.
The initial approach to ecosystem growth is to create dynamic distributions - rewards that change based on the network’s needs at a given time and where the most growth is required to drive value to the network. For example, in the beginning, the Dtravel network requires as many operators to contribute their listings to the network. In order to match demand, a higher value is placed on listings in new markets and destinations most popular with crypto travelers.
A dynamic rewards program allows Dtravel to:
- Launch faster without smart contracts.
- Iterate as needed and make improvements based on community feedback.
- Test how TRVL rewards might expand outside of the Dtravel ecosystem.
With this in mind, Dtravel is launching a series of incentive programs funded by a reward pool of up to 150 million TRVL. Each incentive program will support ecosystem growth with varying activities to earn rewards.
Dtravel Rewards Funded by 150 Million TRVL
For the first time, vacation rental operators, travelers, community members and anyone interested in supporting the growth of the Dtravel ecosystem will now be eligible to earn TRVL rewards by participating in seasonal incentive programs.
Season 1 participants will earn points for contributing to meaningful ecosystem growth initiative programs. These initiatives include growing active listing count, on-chain bookings and supporting community engagement. In addition to securing an allocation from the 150m TRVL reward pool, participants will gain whitelist access to TRVL staking programs.
Each incentive program operates independently, so points earned may not hold the same value across different programs. Actions that contribute more significantly to Dtravel’s network health will earn participants a higher percentage of the 150 million TRVL reward pool.
Season 1 begins July 31, 2024 and will run for 3 months.
Season 1: Growth Incentive Program Overview
Below is an overview of the three incentive programs (IPs) for Season 1. Each program is broken down into activities. The programs and their activities will be explained in more detail through subsequent blog posts.
1. Listing Incentive Program (IP)
Listing-IP activities are geared towards driving Dtravel network listing growth. Participants who contribute to listing growth in new and high-demand markets earn the highest number of points, and therefore a higher allocation of TRVL at the end of the season.

2. Booking Incentive Program (IP)
Booking-IP activities aim to grow the number of on-chain bookings. Anyone can earn points by referring a traveler to complete a stay. The more bookings that a traveler makes, the more points they receive for every subsequent completed booking.

3. Community Incentive Program (IP)
Community-IP activities strengthen the ecosystem by rewarding participants who contribute to expanding community channels, enhancing member engagement and strengthening TRVL utility and or adoption.
