How to Add Payment Rules

Auto Payment Rules

Auto payment rules allow you to offer multiple payment options to your guests. For example, you could provide your guests the following options:
  • Pay in full today and save 5%
  • Pay 20% today and pay the remaining balance 14 days before check-in
Why should I add Auto Payment Rules?
  1. More bookings
    1. Offering guests multiple payment options reduces friction to book. Guests may be more inclined to book your property when they only need to pay a fraction of the total upfront.
  1. More far-future bookings
    1. According to Airbnb, paying less upfront encourages bookings further in advance. Compared with ordinary bookings, the Pay Less Up Front payment option led to bookings with nearly double the lead time, helping hosts to secure and manage bookings more easily.
  1. Save money
    1. Payment rules also reduce your transaction fee burden if a guest needs to cancel. It's cheaper for you to cancel a booking where you only collected 10% as opposed to 100%.

  1. Log into your Dtravel account: https://app.dtravel.com/operators/login
  1. Go to Settings → Payments → Payment Rules
  1. Click on “Add a new rule”
  1. Fill in the details accordingly
    1. Rule name
    2. Amount due upfront (%)
    3. When the remaining amount (%) is due
      1. Number of days before check-in OR
      2. Number of days after booking
    4. Optionally, you can also offer a % discount for payments in full
      1. This discount will only apply if the guest is within the eligible window for auto payments.
      2. For example, if the rule is “20% due upfront, 80% due 7 days before check-in” and you’ve opted to offer a 5% discount for payments in full upfront. If the guest attempts to book 6 days before check-in, they will only have the option to pay in full and the 5% discount will NOT apply.
  1. Click “Continue” at the bottom of the modal and select the listings you wish to apply this rule to.
    1. You can also elect to make this the “default rule” which means all new listings that are added to your Dtravel account will automatically receive this rule.

What does this look like for guests?
  • When the criteria of your auto payment rule is met, your guests will be able to select a payment option.
  • If guests select to “pay a part now, part later” then they will see how much is due today and how much is due at a specific later date.

Other Notes
  • Auto payments are not yet available with crypto
  • The subsequent payment will automatically be processed on the guest’s same credit card that was used upon booking.
  • If the subsequent payment fails, you and your guest will be notified via email, and your guest will be directed to update their credit card details within their Dtravel settings.
  • Dtravel will not automatically cancel any reservations so it will be your responsibility to follow up and take any actions you deem necessary (e.g. cancel, refund, etc.).
